What’s in a name?

Ashville’s Citizen-Times asks Michell Hicks, principal chief of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, for his perspective on the Washington Redskins team name and logo. Hicks shares his support for the respectful manner in which the team uses the name and the pride he feels of the role models created by athletic competitors using Native American names: “When (sports teams) use words like Braves, Indians and Warriors, it represents the foundation of our country. We were the first Americans, and it brings pride to all nations. When we go out on the field as Cherokee Braves, it’s with pride and dignity of who we are.”
